Practice of Law to be Taught at Law School

Most law schools are full of academic classes, and the occasional internship/ mediation seminar, with one or two practice of law classes scattered in.  But that means most "how to actually practice law" education is left to your summer programs. 

The Washington & Lee School of Law is changing that.  The Deans of that schol are going to replace all 3L academic classes with practice of law classes. These will require 3Ls to get a practice license and interact with real clients, as well as perhaps do billable hours. 

The new program is intended to serve as a transition from law student to legal professional, and will cover lots of various fields from corporate to family law.  They will learn to work in teams (in theory,) negotiate with others and counsel clients.

Sounds... interesting.  Whether it is a good idea, I'm not sure.  How helpful will learning Virginia specific practices help elsewhere?
