2012 U.S. News Law School Rankings Released
By A.S. Pradhan

The latest U.S. News law school rankings are out, and the top 14 places are pretty much the same, except for newcomer UT-Austin at number 14. Yale is still number one, followed by Harvard at second place, and Stanford at number three.

But the real news is how U.S. News has changed its ranking methodology. In an acknowledgment of the tough job market for new law graduates, the magazine takes into account the employment prospects for students of each of the schools ranked. This has meant that Emory Law School, previously ranked at number 22, has slid down to number 30.  Emory’s dean, Partlett, has blamed the current weak state of the legal market for the hard times some of the school’s students have fallen upon.

In another change for U.S. News, it has now formally recognized Tier-II schools. Earlier, it covered just the top 100 schools. Now it covers 75% of all schools. All schools below number 100 are classified as Tier-II schools. This means there are no Tier-III schools, or TTTs are they are referred in less polite terms.

At times it is written over the weeks and at the same time it is surprisingly mastered. He almost wrote one volume every year, on top of his books which would take him five years and that were written very differently.
