Job Search news from BCG Attorney Search
Sidley Austin LLP, 1,900 lawyers strong globally, has recently announced the bolstering of their firm with the hire of Wenseng “Wendy” Pan as a partner in their M&A practice in New York.
The firm plans on relocating her to the firm’s Shanghai office, eventually, and she will continue practicing her expertise as a representative of investors and public and private companies from a range of issues from financing, PE investment, M&A, healthcare, IT, and so forth, which, with her background as a former scientist and registered U.S. patent lawyer, has given her an especially sharp acumen regarding intellectual property laws.
“Adding Wendy to our team significantly enhances our capabilities in cross-border M&A as well as IP transactions and other tech-related matters,” said Constancy Choy, a partner in Sidleys’ Hong Kong office. “With her strong skill set in these two key areas, she will enable us to further expand the scope of services we offer to our regional and global client base.”
Such an expansion of scope seems typical as to what these gigantic global firms are after, but with Pan, Sidley is excited to have a firm widely recognized as a Leading Lawyer for mergers in acquisitions, as IFLR10000 determined her to be. Her experience in life sciences and technology make her a great fit for what they are trying to do with their Asian presence.
“Chinese companies’ growing interest in investment and M&A opportunities outside China signals an increasing demand for the deep knowledge and insight Wendy brings to the table, particularly in terms of cross-border M&A deal experience, IP experience, and ties to the life sciences industries on both sides of the Pacific,” as Thomas Albrecht, managing partner for Sidley, Asia Pacific, said. “We are delighted Wendy is now part of our talented team and know that clients will greatly benefit from her deep understanding of the current M&A environment.”
Considering that Sidley has been received the most first-tier national rankings in the U.S. News Best “Best Law Firms” survey, it seems they are now after more of the same.
