Stroock Bolsters Themselves with Three New Hires

Laura Besvinick Stroock & Stroock & Lavan LLP, a leading national law firm for nearly 140 years, has announced this Monday the addition of two new partners and a special counsel. Michael C. Keats will join their New York office as a litigation partner, Laura Besvinick will join their Miami office as an insurance litigation partner, and Julie Nevins will join their Miami office as a special counsel focusing on complex commercial litigation.

“The addition of these talented and experienced lawyers will bolster the firm’s strong national litigation practice in key practice areas – insurance, securities, commercial litigation and commodities,” said Alan M. Klinger, Stroock’s co-managing partner, in reference to these three lawyers as well as two other Los Angeles additions.

In bringing in fresh talent, they’ve mode some prime choices, with Keats as well versed in representing financial institutions. Formerly the Managing Director in Goldman Sach’s Litigation and Regulatory Group, he has experience both in the courtroom and in-house, with knowledge on securities fraud and commodities manipulation. He received his J.D. from Boston University School of Law.

“Michael has an extraordinary breadth of experience as a corporate counsel, trial lawyer, and adviser to Fortune 100 companies, as well as their executives, on complex, high-risk securities matters,” said Klinger.

Likewise, Stroock lauded Besvinick, saying “Laura is one of the most respected insurance litigators in the country, and has an extraordinary record of success for her clients in state, federal, and appellate courts,” as Michele Jacobson, a member of the Firm’s Executive Committee said. “She and Julie will be great assets to our Florida office and national insurance practice.”

She focuses on representing insurers in bad faith actions, complex coverage disputes, and consumer class actions, advising on claims handling bad faith issues as well, amidst a bevy of other areas she’s worked on, defending accountants and attorneys in malpractice actions, and representing companies in complex commercial disputes.

Besvinick received her J.D. cum laude from Harvard Law School, and Nevins from Florida State University College of Law.

Nevins has worked for over 15 years focusing on trial and appellate courts in complex business disputes. She is apt at handling insurance coverage, business torts, trademark, trade secrets, and so forth.

By bolstering their firm with such talent, Stroock hopes to remain on the cutting edge of transactional, regulatory and litigation guidance for the nation’s greatest financial institutions. Along with the addition of two others in Los Angeles, Steven Atlee and Yousef Dhamee, they are preparing for an intense 2015.
